The Integral version hybridizes these two, including all the gore alongside the extra scenes. Extends the runtime from 86min to min, so you actually get more movie, although this has never been the director's "approved" cut.

The audio was restored as well, and the excellent soundtrack has never sounded better. The outer box is a gorgeous digipack. Looks great on any shelf.

Inside are great extras. You get a Criterion-style booklet where a writer describes the making-of, and some lobby cards which are so beautiful I might frame them.

Commentaries, interviews, making-of specials More than anyone needs. Love it. Great transfer, great packaging, great movie. Get it. The movie is about a modern day mad scientist.

There is plenty of skin shown in the movie as well as lots of blood, and gore. It is a sort of "campy" movie with a bit of a fan base.

It is a story by H. Lovecraft made into a movie. It is sort of a strange movie, with the characters being a bit extreme, the story shows that humanity has some craziness' mixed into itself.

The dangers of stepping into God's domain are illustrated in this movie. Eerie , and somewhat repulsive like dissecting your first frog in science class you are still strangely drawn in, and curious how everything seems to goes together and work.

If bloody horror movies are something you enjoy watching then this movie will certainly fit the bill. This new Arrow version is terrific! Packaging, extras, remastering are all flawless.

Intergral version is actually better than the regular version. Great 80s horror comedy! Highly recommended! Better snag the amazing remaster of this cult gore-core horror classic in all of its uncut glory.

One of the very few HP Lovecraft cinematic adaptations worth having in your library alongside 's 'Color Out of Space.

Hop on this steal of a deal while it lasts and enjoy one of the zaniest, bloodiest horror romps that the 80s gifted us. The movie is pretty good.

Its fun, bloody, and strange. Barbra Crampton and Jeffery Combs are awesome as always. The DVD is fantastic. It has some trailer and tv spots of the film, which are always fun to view.

As a fan of his work, it was a nice extra for the DVD to include. There's also tons of interviews and commentaries. I was really impressed with all the stuff included with the movie.

Not for the squeamish, Re-Animator redefined screen horror then, and it stands alone now. Reams have already been written about this modern classic that left Night Of The Living Dead in the dust.

But for any who have not seen it, or not seen it lately, it is still unmatched by it's inventiveness and dark wit. It spawned two sequels which bear viewing only if you didn't get enough the first time.

But IMHO, the first is still a cut above all the rest pun intended. I remember when I first saw this movie I was in my early teens barely having heard of it before.

My only frame of reference was my oldest brother and my mother talking about it with me being too young to understand what they were getting at, at the time.

Well before I saw it when my brothers bought a used VHS of the now considerably rare R-rated version, I had never seen any previews, snuck a peek at any scenes, nor did I have any concept as to who H.

Lovecraft even was. Anyhoo, once I saw it with scenes that I didn't know at the time weren't in the Unrated version I instantly loved the whole concept and story but was disappointed in the minimal gore and minimal nudity.

Thankfully it wasn't that long until I had some birthday money to happily find a used VHS copy of the Unrated version. While the gore and nudity was what I wanted, I was still shocked to see which scenes were still used, which scenes from the R-rated version weren't used, plus the gore, graphic violence, and nudity were intense for me at first as per seeing them all for the very first time but after many more watches I got something out of both versions plus saw one brilliant zombie not at all like anything that I had seen before.

All of that being said, I have since then become an instant fan of it's first sequel of Bride of Re-Animator and several years later Beyond Re-Animator, finally I have upgraded to the DVD's of them and now the Blu-rays.

In this review I will focus on the actor's performances, the characters, the gore effects, the humor, and the eye-candy.

First I can't emphasize enough everyone's excellent performances. I have heard that Combs was a stage actor originally and his actor experience more than shows here.

He literally stays right in character playing Dr. Bruce Abbot is excellent as his semi-reluctant partner of who is young, handsome, likable, cool headed, and considerably torn between West's experiments and his relationship with his beautiful girlfriend Megan.

David Gail is great as the plagiaristic, manipulative, sleazy, evil, ruthless, and cunning foil to Dr. West, Dr. Carl Hill.

The gore effects are sensational with practical effects, live actors to play the zombies, realistic gore, and creative looks to the morgue zombies gruesome looks.

Also having David Gail as Dr. Hill seem to have his severed head and body perform both separately and together was pure genius. Among funny scenes in the movie one that definitely gives me a chuckle is when Dr.

Cain and Dr. West struggle with a living dead Rufus the cat. Also, Jeffrey Combs has several funny moments in his classic deadpan deliveries. Among them my most favorite of his hilarious lines is, "Who'd listen to a talking head?

Get a job in the sideshow. Barbara Crampton is gorgeous, a believable character, and most of all she is just plain smoking hot. She makes for both great eye-candy and sex appeal as pleasing as her nude scenes are in general.

Overall, if you love zombie movies serious or comedic , love great 80's horror serious or comedic , love Jeffrey Combs, enjoy excellent gore and practical effects, enjoy a good villain, enjoy great sex appeal and nudity, If you are into Lovecraft and in general just love a great classic with all of the best stuff to be entertaining, well then this movie is right up your alley.

See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Details later. Excellent release of an excellent film. While Re-Animator is not a good example of Lovecraftian horror, it's still a suprisingly well done adaptation.

The film's funny and gory and Jeffrey Combs is perfect in his leading role as Herbert West even though his name is last on the credits and Dean Cain is supposed to be the hero of the story.

Quality of the release itself is excellent with good amount of extras and the cover is reversible so you can display the great original artwork if you want.

Unfortunately the integral cut doesn't have any subtitles which is why I'm not giving this release full 5 stars. The audio quality is excellent though so the subtitles might not be necessary and the integral cut is the worse version of the two, so you propably don't need to see it more than once if even that.

Jeffrey Combs at his very best as a Horror and Sci-Fi icon This is a great 'B' horror from , so over 30 years old yes! This is why it kind of sucked in DVD.

In fact my VHS was better quality. So when this special 2 disc edition was released I wasted no time. The sound and picture quality on our 49' LED TV is amazing, this edition is re-masterd in 4k it is stunning.

It also has a second disc and two different cuts of the movie. A must have for fans of this movie and indeed horror. Based loosely on the H.

With its unnatural lighting, crooked angles and melodramatic outbursts, Re-Animator has the style of cautionary 50s sci-fi. Except much, much gorier.

West soon gets to work resurrecting dead animals, but his sights are set on human reanimation. Meanwhile, the scheming Dr Hill David Gale seeks to steal the serum and create a zombie army of his own.

The script is sharp, the plotting is tight, and the characters are well-rounded. This is thanks in large part to the universally good performances, chief of which is the possessed Combs, whose deranged scientist is hilarious and unique.

And the producer is Brian Yuzna, whose directorial debut would be the fantastically grotesque Society, and who would direct the Re-Animator sequel in It even dares to ask big questions: What is medical science for?

Should we seek to cheat death entirely? And then it drowns such lofty concerns in a bucket of offal.
